About Me
“Good UX means good product, and bad UX means bad product”
- That’s what I would always tell my stakeholders when explaining the value of UX design.
Hi, I’m Zyra, but most people call me Zai. I am product designer who enjoys turning complex problems into thoughtful, usable, and scalable experiences.
Over the past several years, I’ve worked across industries including maritime, defense, AI, and enterprise platforms, designing products that support real-world decisions and real people. Most recently, I was a Senior Product Designer at RightShip, where I helped shape complex B2B tools and led the creation of the company’s first design system to improve consistency and scale across teams.
But my journey hasn’t just been about design systems and product launches.
Over the past year, life has looked a little different. Meaning, moving countries, getting married, and stepping into military life, where relocation and change are part of the journey. It’s taught me to stay adaptable, embrace new places, and find inspiration wherever I land.
It’s been a season of growth, both professionally and personally.
My Design Approach
I’m most comfortable working end-to-end — from discovery to delivery — but what I care about most is clarity. I like understanding the problem deeply, asking questions, and working collaboratively to find thoughtful solutions.
Some of the things I particularly enjoy:
Designing complex, data-heavy products
Building and scaling design systems
Working closely with product managers and engineers
Turning messy workflows into intuitive experiences
Bringing structure to fast-moving environments
I also enjoy exploring AI-augmented workflows — using AI tools to support research, ideation, and documentation, while keeping human judgment and empathy at the center of the design process.
A Bit About My Journey
Before RightShip, I worked at Seventh Sense designing AI-powered and mission-critical tools, including a Command & Control system for Singapore’s Ministry of Defense and a facial recognition system deployed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier in my career, I worked at PebbleRoad and Popular, where I learned the foundations of UX, digital transformation, and product thinking — experiences that shaped how I approach design today.
Over time, my role has evolved from designing interfaces to shaping systems, aligning teams, and thinking more strategically about how products scale.
What I’m Doing Now
I’m currently based in the U.S. and exploring new opportunities where I can contribute to thoughtful, meaningful products. I’m particularly interested in:
Product design for complex platforms
Design systems and scalable experiences
AI-integrated product workflows
Remote or distributed teams
I’m also open to collaboration, mentoring, and connecting with other designers navigating similar transitions.
Outside of Design
When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me:
Running (still surprising myself with this one) and improving my calisthenics skills
Working in the garden or in the kitchen
Planning our next move (military life!)
Hanging out with our two orange cats
If you’re working on something meaningful, or just want to connect — I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by.
